beginnings are always exciting. - dorothy day
…and in the case of the sparrow community house, i dare to say, a bit revolutionary. if you haven’t heard the buzz, atlanta has always been and continues to be a dangerous place for transgender people experiencing homelessness. the sparrow community house is coming into being to shelter and support transgender women who have been without services and a safe space in a city where traditionally gendered homeless people often have trouble finding much needed resources.
our community house has room for 10 women and a few staff. we’ve also come up with an organic garden, a big kitchen, a yoga studio, and a handful of passionate folks who believe that ALL people have a right to housing and a hot meal. we’re currently in the process of getting our non-profit status, organizing benefits, working out logisitcs, building a website, and getting people excited about our beginning.
as for the sweet little logo, we have maria sykes to thank. maria is currently lending her hands and heart to EPIcenter in utah. take a look at their tumblr.
keep checking in, friend.
in service and solidarity,
hillary
